Civilization in Age of Empires 2
Ranked 1v1 on Arabia, current patch (since 23 September 2026), mirrors excluded. Source: aoe2companion. Updated weekly.
Cavalry and Monk civ: each garrisoned Relic gives Knights and Leitis +1 attack, up to +4. Each Town Center provides +100 food. Spearmen and Skirmishers move 10% faster. Leitis (unique unit from the Castle) ignore their target's melee armor. The Winged Hussar (unique unit, Imperial Age) replaces the Hussar – more HP, attack and melee armor, and like it costs only food. Hill Forts: Town Centers +3 range. Tower Shields: Spearmen and Skirmishers +2 pierce armor. Team: Monasteries work 20% faster.
On open maps usually a Scout rush or Barracks first with a Drush; the +100 food per Town Center speeds up the start. On closed maps Scouts or Fast Castle. From Castle Age early Monks to secure Relics: with four Relics Knights have +4 attack. Plus Skirmishers and Spearmen with Tower Shields. In Imperial Age Paladins and Leitis, which ignore melee armor, plus Winged Hussars as a gold-free mass. Hill Forts make their base hard to raid.
Relic control decides: attack Monks and Relic carriers early, before the bonus grows – without Relics their Knights are ordinary Knights. Camel Riders against the cavalry, Halberdiers as a cheap answer. Against Leitis prefer many cheap units over expensive armor. They lack Arbalester, Plate Mail Armor, Blast Furnace and Siege Engineers.
