Civilization in Age of Empires 2
Ranked 1v1 on Arabia, current patch (since 23 September 2026), mirrors excluded. Source: aoe2companion. Updated weekly.
Infantry and cavalry civ: infantry has +1/+2/+3 attack in Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age. Lumber Camp technologies free. Battle Elephants have +1/+1 armor. Monastery technologies cost 50% less. Arambai (unique unit from the Castle) are mounted ranged units with high damage but very inaccurate – strongest against tight groups. Manipur Cavalry: cavalry +4 attack vs. ranged soldiers. Howdah: Battle Elephants another +1/+1 armor. Team: Relics visible on the map from the start.
Usually Scouts or Men-at-Arms in Feudal Age, plus Spearmen and Skirmishers – their infantry already hits harder in Feudal Age, and free wood technologies give them a good early economy. In Castle Age Arambai from the Castle that shred tight groups, plus Knights and Light Cavalry, with Manipur Cavalry +4 vs. ranged units. In Imperial Age Elite Arambai, Cavaliers, Battle Elephants with Howdah and Champions with +3 attack; cheap Monastery technologies make their Monks strong.
Arambai are inaccurate and have little HP: Skirmishers, Archers and Onagers clear them – spread your army so missed shots hit nothing. Against Knights and Battle Elephants use Pikemen and Camel Riders, against elephants Monks too. Catch their infantry early with Archers, not in melee. They lack Arbalester, Paladin, Thumb Ring, Leather Archer Armor and Ring Archer Armor – their ranged units die fast to arrows.
